Historic Petoskey inn looking at energy upgrade

The Inn at Bay Harbor, a luxury golf resort on Lake Michigan in Petoskey, is investigating a major energy efficiency upgrade on the historical building, after The Inn’s board voted to move forward on the project.

First step will be to see if there’s interest on the part of the Emmet County Board of Commissioners to designate that county as a Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) district, which could facilitate the financing of the energy project.

The Homeowners Association board of The Inn at Bay Harbor met recently with Andy Levin, managing partner of Levin Energy Partners, which administers of the Lean and Green Michigan PACE finance program. So far, 11 other Michigan counties, and four cities, have organized PACE districts through Lean and Green Michigan. (See list below.)

Scott Ringlein, CEO of The Energy Alliance Group of Michigan, also attended that meeting. EAG of Michigan is an approved PACE project developer and is a leader in Michigan PACE energy projects.

According to Ron Braniecki, general manager of The Inn at Bay Harbor, the 135 residential units at The Inn are privately owned, but often available to be rented to guests at The Inn. The energy upgrade would include common areas and energy systems and building envelope changes that support the entire building.

The Inn is one of three Michigan resorts owned by Boyne Resorts, which also operates Boyne Highland and Boyne Mountain Resorts.

The Inn at Bay Harbor, a Renaissance Lake Michigan Golf Resort, has been recognized by Travel & Leisure magazine as one of the World’s 500 Best Hotels. It offers lakeside luxury, with stunning Lake Michigan views, an upscale ambience, full service spa, world class cuisine, memorable meeting and event space, and 45 holes of award-winning Michigan golf.
