It’s “Go Green, Go White” for the Energy Alliance Group of Michigan (EAG) as it joins other supporters of the 16th Annual Steve Smith Charity Challenge, a June 30 golf outing in sponsored by the West Michigan Spartans.
The event, at the Egypt Valley Country Club in Ada near Grand Rapids, is a major fund-raiser for the West Michigan Spartans, benefitting Michigan State University, the Grand Rapids Student Advancement Foundation, MSU College of Human Medicine and the Steve Smith/MSU Scholarship.
Curt Monhart, EAG vice president of sales and marketing, is an avid member of the West Michigan Spartans, volunteers at the golf outing, and is happy that EAG was able to make a financial donation to the event.
“This is a really great event and very important for the West Michigan Spartans. We had nearly 400 people involved last year and the West Michigan Spartans are glad we’re able to support those charities through the golf outing,” says Monhart, a graduate of the MSU Eli Broad Graduate School of Management.
He’s particularly pleased to support the Grand Rapids Student Advancement Foundation, which works to enrich the education of children in the areas of literacy, the arts, the environment and provides after school learning opportunities.
Steve Smith, who will attend the June 30 event, played basketball at MSU from 1987-1991 and is the Spartan’s all-time leading scorer with 2,263 points. He played in the NBA from 1991-2005 and was a member of the 2000 United States Olympic Basketball Team, which won the gold medal.
MSU Basketball Coach Tom Izzo also attends and will be the auctioneer during the event’s silent and live auction.
This donation aligns nicely with the EAG commitment, made when the company was formed in 2013, that EAG would donate 10 percent of its profits to charity. After its first year of operation, EAG donated toys and craft items for young patients at the C. S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor. (See related story)
