EAG helps promote state energy efficiency awareness

The goal of the Michigan Energy Efficiency Expo and Capital Day in September was to increase the awareness of the importance of energy efficiency, particularly with state legislatures. That goal was achieved, according to an event organizer.

“We’re very happy with the outcome. We wanted to increase awareness on energy efficiency, and I believe the event did that. Since the conference, we’ve been very busy working back channels on Michigan energy policy. Legislators got to know our members better and understand some of their concerns,” said Brindley Byrd, executive director of the Michigan Energy Efficiency Contractors Association, which coordinated the event with the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA) and the Michigan Energy Innovation Business Council (EIBC).

The Energy Alliance Group of Michigan was one of the sponsors of the event and exhibited at the Capitol Building Expo. Curt Monhart, EAG vice president of sales and marketing, and Craig Viges, EAG director of business development, attended.

“The expo provided a great opportunity for Michigan business owners from across the state to connect with their legislators and share the successes of our energy efficiency industry,” said Byrd. “These businesses are helping Michigan families, businesses, non-profits and government save money by reducing energy waste and trimming utility bills,” he added.

“We’re pleased that Energy Alliance Group of Michigan could help support this event. It was an excellent opportunity to not only showcase our services at the expo, but to also meet state legislators who are intimately involved with energy efficiency policies that will impact company’s like ours throughout the State of Michigan. It’s very important for the company and for our state,” said Scott Ringlein, founder of the EAG of Michigan.

The event, with the overall message that “Energy Efficiency Works for Michigan” included four components:

The Energy Efficiency Expo — 42 companies and organizations set up displays inside Michigan’s Capitol Building;

Press Conference — A press conference was organized with six speakers in the Capitol Rotunda;

Face-to-Face Meetings — EIBC and MEECA staff organized meetings with their members and their members’ legislators. Twelve meetings were held throughout the day;

Capital Day Reception — More than 70 stakeholders from the legislature, administration, Michigan Public Service Commission, utilities and contractors gathered at Troppo’s in Lansing to celebrate the Michigan Energy Efficiency Expo & Capital Day.
